Semi-abstract piece inspired by aerial photography of Tiwi Islands. I was intrigued by the organic shapes and beautiful colours of the islands when I first saw the photo. The stunning tones of orange remind me of Australian sand and blues of the ocean. The lush greenery is taking me to tropical island and the whole colour combo is just stunning.

Tiwi means “two islands” and refers to Melville and Bathurst Islands separated by the 70km long, 6km wide Apsley Strait. At 5788 sq.km, Melville Island is Australia’s second largest island after Tasmania.

The Tiwis is an archipelago with nine surrounding islands. These are officially declared ‘uninhabited’ but Tiwi legend tells of Nginawi – a mysterious tribe of tall, hairy people who roam there undiscovered.
